sometimes you want to modify a recipe to try a variation, but there is no option to save as a new recipe, that would be really sweet!

strength training calories

Am I missing something or is it not possible for this thing to calculate how many calories I"m burning during a strength training exercise?? It allows me to add strength training exercises, but doesn't add in any calories burned. Obviously, we DO burn calories during strength training and I want them to be included!

I think that the calories earned from exercise should not automatically be added to our daily calorie allowance. It gives the impression that I can/should eat more. I know it is just perception, but those of us with weight issues can find any excuse to fall off the wagon. I think that they should be listed separately at all times. If we need to use more, then they can be subtracted from the bonus points so to speak. :smile:

I often find small things (like drinks) that arent in the data base but I know no one drink the wierd things I do (like the realy old protein drink I have.) so I just find my self using the quick tools and adding the callories. I would like to be able to add the protein in the quick tools as well. I dunno if anyone else has this problum, and it's not a huge problem just a suggestion.

Is this a message board or a suggestion box?

OK, I've come on here to make a suggestion. I've got several, which have to do with distributing (averaging) exercise credits over more than one day, and also to add averaging functions to the reports, which are pretty much useless as is.

But is anyone from myfitnesspal listening? I don't see any point in talking with other users about what might be nice. I'd like to see some list somewhere of suggestions that have come up, and an indication of whether there is any desire to enhance the concept of myfitnesspal

Basically, myfitnesspal is a great idea, and I'll use it for what it provides. The most useful part is all the foods that have already been added to the database, and that it is cloud based and available on smartphones. The rest of what it does at present could be accomplished with an Excel spreadsheet and an hour's work.

It's just frustrating because it could be SO MUCH BETTER than it is, and it wouldn't be all that much work!

So is anyone from myfitnespal listening, or is this just an echo chamber for users?

i signed up for a 1200 calorie a day diet and I want to know if the amounts calculated for carbs, fate, protein are the amount of each to support 1200 calories a day> I guess i want to know that is say for example 400 calories left for the day that the other items are the remaining requirements for day as well and not to exceed.? hope i explained well enough......thanks

Would it be possible to have more exercise categories beyond just cardio and strength? Flexibility and balance exercises are important also, but there's no graceful way to track them in MFP.

I often use things from "my recipes" to make other recipes. I don't like to add these to the public database because there are already too many duplicate versions of items there, which can be really confusing.

Examples:
I make pesto often, so I add it to my recipe page. I also often make a pasta and veggie dish that uses this pesto.
Same with tomato sauce. I make my own and then add it to other recipes.

Hi,

When adding foods can there be minimum entries or at least that you have to have carbs, fat and protein filled in before you can proceed. I am trying to stick to a 40-30-30 and I am finding it very difficult when many of the food items miss protein out! Don't know why people don't record protein properly, argh!

Editing Recipe Ingredients

I think it would be great if we could edit the amount of of ingredient in a recipe, just like we can edit the amount of food in our diaries. There are times when I screw up when entering an ingredient or tweak a recipe the second time I make it, and it's kind of a hassle to have to delete the ingredient and re-add it.

It would be nice to be able to record the time we eat our meals/snacks. Since it is healthier to eat every 2-4 hours, it would help to keep us on track. Thanks.

Hi,

My employer is starting a new wellness program that offers incentives based on your wellness statistics and changes over time. The program is called Vitality and the website is vitality.com. Vitality offers data sharing with sites like MapMyFitness. I am definitely invested in MFP, all my data and my family is already on here which is great for all of us. I would be interested in making this sharing of data happen between MFP and Vitality. Do you know about Vitality and are there plans to get these two sites connected or is there a possibility a developer, like myself, could help extend MFP to make this happen?

I am currently in 3 challenges and I know other MFP users are in multiple challenges. I usually have to search "My Topics" to find my challenges but at times, my challenge threads are far far down on that list. It would be great to have a tab for "My Challenges" which would only store the user's challenge thread.

Exercise Search engine

I was entering my exercise for the weekend and had a really hard time finding what I was looking for.
Just a suggestion but maybe you could have a linc that will bring you to an A-Z in different exercises so that people can select the item that best describes what they were doing.
I had done literally morning to night of a bathroom remodel which required me to do lots of lifting and hammering and hard labour but didn't know what to search. It would have been great to just go through a list and pick whatever I tohught would have been a similar activity.

I think its important for support to have so and so gained X amount of pounds since last weight - that way its not just about loss but also for "support" I know we all have days were we get SO unmotivated due to weight gain!

First of all, I love the website and the iPhone app. It has allowed me to track my food consumption with greater precision than ever before, which has generated fantastic results.

That said, I have a couple of comments.

1) It would be nice if you could set up different caloric goals for different days of the week. I am on a carb cycling diet where I eat very low carb 6 days a week and "carb-up" once a week. My total caloric goals are different on the carb-up day, and my macronutrient distribution changes. It would be nice if I didn't have to go in and change it every Sunday and then back on Monday.
2) If I add a food for breakfast, that food doesn't show up in other meals as a food I've recently chosen. This means, I either just go and add to my breakfast totals so I don't have to go through the effort of looking the food up, or I have to duplicate the lookup effort. It would be nice if any food you've used would show up in any meal, regardless of when you ate it.

In the Reports Tab, under nutrition, when I request a report it only shows how much I've consumed. I wish that it would also show my recommended daily amount. Thats all!! :)

Net Carbs: Carbs - Fiber- Sugar Alcohols

Hi,

I would like to see:
(1) the option to add sugar alcohols to the nutrition info for foods in the food data base, and
(2) a column for “Net Carbs” in the food diary which is equal to (Carbs) – (Sugar Alcohols) – (Fiber).

I think these changes would give people a more accurate way to track what they are actually digesting, and help account for the true calories they are taking in as a result.

I cannot believe that this website doesn't show the nutritional content for a food. I have to do the calculating myself. This is incredibly lame. I used to use Calorie Count from About and quit because it took so long to load. But at least they allowed the user to calculate different amounts. Please update! Check out cc.about.com and see the difference. Your website could be superior with this little change. Please do it so I can have an easier time calculating.

Is there a way to report when using resistance bands? I use them for arm strengthening, 4 reps of 25 for each arm, changing positioning. Thanks!

Unhealthy Weight-loss Ads

I'm just curious here... I know MFP says that a healthy weight loss should be no more than 2lbs/week. Why, then, do you let advertisements showing "Lose 2-5 lbs/week" and "Lose 7lbs in 7 days" on this site? They're tempting, but I know that's not healthy. I just don't understand the logic behind it, besides they're paying you. Which, I realize, is what keeps this site going. I feel like you'd want to encourage us to do this the right way and not take shortcuts, though.

Ban fad diet posts

I'm urging the site owners to add a rule to ban any fad diet discussions, like HGC or VLCDs. This suppose to be a site to discuss and support a healthy lifestyle change. Those choices are NOT healthy and only encourage people desperate to quickly lose weight to try it and make things worse for themselves.

Bypass surgery is also borderline since it's just another short cut that usually doesn't work long term, but since it's done by Drs it'll be hard to convince anyone it's unhealthy.

It would be helpful if the quote script was written in a way that when you click "quote," the person's name that you are quoting would also appear in the information you quoted.

Some of these threads get so busy, I spend more time looking back and finding out who is being quoted so I know who is being congratulated.

For example:
I'm down 2 pants sizes!!!!
Congrats!!
Way to go!!
That's awesome!!
